Local entrepreneurs met with the President

Entrepreneurs Bernardo Martínez and Ezequiel Manzini, founders of Deitres and ATICMA members, met with President Mauricio Macri to present their latest technological development: AMIar. The meeting, held in Olivos, was also attended, alongside the President, by Jorge Aguado, Secretary of Planning and Policy in Science, Technology and Productive Integration.

The product on display is a smart electronic meter, developed entirely by Deitres after getting its start 4 years ago through a grant from Argentina's Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation.

The first 40 meters will be installed in newly built homes in Buenos Aires' Barrio 31 and 31 Bis neighborhoods to optimize energy consumption plans. The devices will let electricity providers perform remote connection, disconnection and reconnection without having to enter the neighborhood. They will also record energy consumption data daily and send the collected data to a computerized information center.

Smart meters are the first step toward a 100 percent renewable energy system. Devices like these are already made elsewhere in the world, but with a very high barrier to adoption: their cost. Bernardo explains, “Those meters aren't economically feasible to install in Latin America, so what we did was develop the first meter that could be feasible for developing economies.”
